Flag-hoisting is culmination of a 500-year-old yajna, says PM, adding that centuries-old wounds are being healed, old vows being fulfilled; saffron flag also a symbol of “national religion”, says U.P. CM

“Today, the city of Ayodhya is witnessing another turning point in India’s cultural consciousness. This moment of flag hoisting celebration at the pinnacle of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple is unique. Siyawar Ramchandra ki Jai,” Mr. Modi said, after hoisting the triangular saffron flag, 10 feet high and 20 feet long, bearing the image of a radiant sun symbolising Lord Ram’s valour, an ‘Om’ symbol, and the Kovidara tree.
The PM began his speech with the chants, “Jai Siyavar Ramchandra, Jai Siyaram”, claiming that the entire nation, and indeed the world, is filled with the spirit of Ram
“Every devotee feels an unparalleled sense of satisfaction, boundless gratitude, and immense spiritual joy,” he said. “Centuries-old wounds are being healed, long-standing pain is finding rest, and a centuries-old vow is finally being fulfilled. Today marks the culmination of a 500-year-long yajna (ritual sacrifice) that remained steadfast in faith and unwavering in belief. The divine energy of the sanctum sanctorum of Shri Ram Temple has now been enshrined in the form of the Dharma Dhwaj atop this magnificent temple,” he added.
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath were also present on the occasion..

The Prime Minister framed the construction of the Ram Temple as part of a journey out of mental slavery. “190 years ago, in 1835, an Englishman named Lord Macaulay laid the seeds of India’s disconnection from its roots, laying the foundation of mental slavery. Though India achieved political independence, the lingering effects of that mindset remain, fostering the belief that everything foreign is superior, while our own legacy is inferior. The mindset of slavery is deep and has led to the mistaken belief that India borrowed democracy and even its Constitution from abroad, but in reality, India is the birthplace of democratic ideals. Democracy is ingrained in our very DNA,” he said.
Mr. Modi described the Dharma Dhwaj as more than a flag, noting that it embodies determination, struggle, and ultimate success.
“It is the realisation of a dream nurtured for centuries, the culmination of the spiritual efforts of saints, and the devotion of society at large. For centuries to come, this Dharma Dhwaj will uphold the ideals of Lord Ram. It will proclaim that truth alone triumphs over falsehood, that dharma is founded on truth, and that promises must always be kept. Praan jaaye par vachan na jaaye (Life may go, but promises cannot be broken). It will inspire action and duty. Karma pradhan vishwa rachi rakha, jo jas karai to tas fal chakhaand (This world is made in such a way that one who works gets rewarded; as you sow, so shall you reap). Pray for a society free from discrimination, suffering, and hardship, where peace and happiness prevail,” Mr. Modi said.

The PM added that the flag allows a glimpse of Ram Lalla’s birthplace from afar, conveying his message and teachings to humanity for generations. “Ayodhya is the land where ideals are transformed into conduct. This is the city where Shri Ram began his journey. It demonstrated to the world how a person becomes the ideal human through societal values and guidance. When Shri Ram went into exile, he was Prince Ram; upon his return, he emerged as the embodiment of virtue,” Mr. Modi said.
The sacred courtyard of the Ram Temple will emerge as a symbol of India’s united strength, the Prime Minister said. The courtyard contains seven temples, which include those dedicated to Maa Shabari and Nishadraj Guhya, as well as shrines for Maa Ahalya, Maharishi Valmiki, Maharishi Vashistha, Maharishi Vishwamitra, Maharishi Agastya, and Saint Tulsidas.
“In this place, alongside Ram Lalla, every sage and devotee is commemorated. The statues of Jatayu and the modest squirrel also illustrate how even the smallest contributions can lead to the realisation of significant objectives,” he added.

Over the past 11 years, every segment of society, women, Dalits, backward classes, tribal communities, the deprived, farmers, laborers, and youth, has been central to development. By empowering every individual and region, India moves together toward a developed nation. By 2047, as India celebrates 100 years of independence, it will realise a vision of development shaped by the collective efforts of all its people,”
Mr. Modi said.
In his address, the U.P. CM described the flag hoisting as the beginning of a new era. “The grand temple of Lord Shri Ram is a symbol of faith, respect and self-pride of 140 crore Indians. Today’s auspicious day is dedicated to the unending struggle of the revered saints, warriors and devotees of Shri Ram, who dedicated their lives for the movement and struggle. The divine coincidence of Vivah Panchami is making this festival even more holy,”
Mr. Adityanath said.
He added that the flag hoisting is a proclamation of the truth that the light of religion is immortal and the values of Ram Rajya are timeless. “The saffron flag hoisted at Shri Ram Mandir is also a symbol of religion, dignity, truth, justice and national religion. It is a symbol of the concept of a developed India. We are witnessing a New India, where there is a perfect synergy of development and heritage. This is giving it new heights,” Mr. Adityanath said.
